What to expect  Chiropractic is a primary healthcare profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions, which are due to mechanical dysfunction of the joints and their effects on the nervous system. Chiropractic is one of the safest and most effective forms of treatment available, with people of all ages benefitting from chiropractic.
Chiropractors identify areas of restricted motion in the spine and limbs then use their hands to make specific adjustments to joints which help to stimulate the nervous system, improve motion, reduce pain and restore proper functioning. On first meeting you, your chiropractor will take a detailed history of your health, and your reasons for seeking a consultation. A diagnosis is made only after further information is gathered from the following: • Physical examination to include postural analysis • Standard orthopaedic and neurological tests Usually treatment is immediate, at other times it may be necessary to seek further information from your GP or to arrange x-rays (when clinically necessary). If the case requires further studies such as laboratory testing, or other diagnostic imaging, your chiropractor will arrange a referral to an appropriate healthcare provider.
